Bacteriostatic Water overview
Bacteriostatic water is water containing 0.9% (w/v) benzyl alcohol, a preservative that inhibits bacterial growth so the same vial can be accessed more than once. In research settings it is used as a diluent to reconstitute lyophilised peptides and other research materials for laboratory work. Each sealed 10 ml glass vial has a rubber stopper and a flip-off crimp cap. Sold as a single vial or as a pack of 10. Also known as “Bac water”.
Storage & handling
Store at 20–25 °C. Do not freeze.
Store unopened vials upright at controlled room temperature (20–25 °C), away from direct light. Do not freeze. Once the stopper has been punctured, follow your laboratory's procedures for in-use time and aseptic handling.
When reconstituting a lyophilised research material, follow the method on that material's own documentation and your laboratory's procedures. See the full catalogue for research compounds, and the COA checker for their batch certificates.
Batch & certificate of analysis
Certificate of analysis: not applicable.
Certificate of analysis: not applicable.
A certificate of analysis is not applicable to this product. Bacteriostatic water is a laboratory diluent, not a research compound, so no batch HPLC or mass-spectrometry certificate is issued. The batch number on each vial label identifies the supplier lot for traceability.
